Women Rock IX
Saturday, November 2nd, 2013
10:00am to 4:00pm
9500 Spirit Mountain Place, Duluth, MN
In addition to breast cancer seminars and other items for St. Luke's Regional Breast Center, I am very excited to announce monies from Women Rock activities have totaled enough to purchase a Specimen Radiography. In as uncomplicated terms as possible, it's "considered one of the best systems to ensure good outcomes for patients undergoing mastectomy and stereotactic breast biopsy, it minimizes patient discomfort and reduces time under anesthesia. Revolutionizing tissue imaging, it provides sharp, high-quality images for rapid specimen verification used simultaneously by radiologist and surgeon increasing diagnostic results and accuracy reducing the need for re-excision." This announcement will be coming from St. Luke's soon.
If you are new to this website, this will be our 6th year of Charter Media also partnering with St. Luke's and we are very grateful for their involvement in making sure Women Rock is here again for its 9th year. It is because Charter Media and St. Luke's cares about their community and they know this is a very important event that brings out the awareness, the needs, the involvement of many, and a way that people can have fun giving back. Proceeds will benefit women (and men) with breast cancer via St. Luke's Foundation and St. Luke's Regional Breast Center.
Our Como Oil and Propane partners continue helping with their Project Pink – donating one cent for every gallon of propane it delivers to households in our region. From Joe Stariha, Como Oil and Propane, Senior Vice President and CFO, "We are so grateful our customers and the community have been supportive of Project Pink. This effort is one way neighbors can help neighbors in our region". A big thank you to Como Oil and Propane and their customers that make this happen! When you see their pink truck around, think of their great gift to this community. And now add on the Slam Dunk Cancer event in February of this year. Como put on a "Slam Dunk Cancer" event with the Superior Spartans (boys and girls teams) playing back-to-back games with the Duluth East Greyhounds. They all wore pink jerseys and then signed them and sold them at the silent auction held at these games. This event raised $6,679.34 for Women Rock. Thanks goes out to Joe Stariha, Como Oil and Propane, and all those involved and especially Superior Spartan and Duluth East students that made this happen.
PARTICIPATE - IT'S CONTAGIOUS!
I have been getting calls for participation in Women Rock IX since February – every year it gets earlier that the calls start coming in, even though the event isn't until November. That makes me ecstatic! Our event continues to be the "water cooler" talk all year! I think that it is fantastic that so many people want to be involved because it is something that helps the community as well as being super fun! A "destination" for sure that first weekend in November. I also try to bring new booths in and new entertainment to keep it fun and a little different each year. I am working on that now and will update on this site when I have confirmation to some of those change ups. One that I have confirmed is we will have "Johnny Cash" singing during our entertainment time… ok, not the real Johnny Cash, but Ter Scott who does quite well being Johnny Cash on stage. Ter is full of entertainment and also will do handwriting analysis again this year. So be sure to mark your calendar now for Women Rock – November 2nd – don't miss out… be there!
Speaking of calendars… Stewart-Taylor Printing donated their time and printing to a one sheet calendar dedicated to breast cancer – it is beautiful!! The picture is a night scene of the Aerial Bridge lit up in Pink and the light of the night shining! It highlights in Pink November 2nd and has the Women Rock logo on the bottom. If you would like a calendar, please send me an email at email@example.com. Thank you Stewart-Taylor!
SPECIAL EVENTS, PAMPERING, ENTERTAINMENT, PRIZES, SILENT AUCTION AND JUST PLAIN FUN!!
Please join us by participating in all our events such as the hourly prizes by purchasing a $1.00 ticket, visiting the vendors that have all planned a special day for you, getting a long overdue massage, watching the new fashions from Coldwater Creek, "Johnny Cash" by Ter Scott songs, Belly Dancing with Beledi Middle Eastern Dancers to name a few things. I'm working on other new entertainment (hoping to get a ballroom dancing demonstration too) so don't miss it! The silent auction will be as big as always, over 100 items … hotel stays, jewelry, wine, household items, certificates, electronics, and lots more! A huge thank you to the many businesses, local and regionally, that donate these items. Their contributions are a big part of the donations we've received over the last 8 years. When you attend this year, please remember them when you are out and about shopping or looking for services. This is a great time to do your Christmas shopping and get a great bargain and help those affected with breast cancer at the same time! Some of the vendors you visit will offer a pampering service, or sample (some in exchange for a small donation of $1.00) while showing you their latest products. Other vendors have donated to the silent auction items. So please stop by their booths and give them some of your time or shop at their booth Don't forget the purpose of this event is for breast cancer fundraising (that all stays local) and at the same time having fun. $3.00 admission is all it is to get in the door; the lights, the pink lanterns, the pink balloons… all there to enhance the already exciting atmosphere!
Another event, you can click to another page on this website… Rockin for a Reason. Please check this page out and consider forming a team to rock for pledges. It is much easier than walking, only a ½ hour of time, and all on the same day and same place as Women Rock! The pledges collected go entirely to the Breast Center.. no money taken out for t-shirts, or any expenses! We need some teams!
We are just getting started….. check back as they sign up every week…
